This “Deep Space” Rookie Card is the silver Prizm insert for the 2023 year. Although Wembanyama is the hottest rookie in the modern era, inserts tend to be a little less desirable than actually base cards for any rookie. More often than not, the true rookie card is the base version. Every set is different, and rarity does come into play of course. For this example, the insert is “more rare” than a base card, but still less valuable. This is mainly because Prizm is the ‘gold standard’ for basketball cards.

Inserts are not as sought out these days as they were in the 1990s-00’s, but that’s because there are more inserts than rookie cards now. All of this means that these can be found for quite the deal, financially, and the fact that it looks like they took his picture dribbling in the Millennium Falcon cockpit makes it even cooler.

2023-24 Panini Prizm Monopoly

Purple Rookie Card #81

CGC Grade: GEM MT 10

The seemingly unlikely partnership got a second edition with 2023-24 Panini Prizm Monopoly Basketball. Collectors can combine chrome cards with the classic board game, or they could just collect the cards. The main set had 90 cards, veterans and rookies mixed together -including Victor Wembanyama. The set closely resembles a typical Prizm release. The chromium stock is the most noticeable element, give cards the signature metal shine. Parallels do incorporate some color but this is where the Monopoly side of things comes in as well. Icons and logos from the game also get a starring role in these, appearing in some cards’ borders. The base set checklist includes 90 players, and multiple parallels. The purple, seen here, was only sold in blasters.

Following a historic rookie season in the NBA in which he led the league in blocks per game, Wembanyama was unanimously named the 2024 Rookie of the Year, finished second in the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year voting to compatriot Rudy Gobert, and became the first rookie ever to be named to the All-Defensive First Team.
